One day I will buy acreage in Maine, but for now I have under an acre on Cape Cod. This will be my testing ground, my experiment in mini-farming.
I want to slowly evolve my little suburban plot into a bucolic setting. I will be dreaming and creating the outbuildings, the gardens and landscaping, heck even the pond itself! This will be a mini-farm from the ground up.
I am an artist as well, and the whole process from dreaming to creating this idea is in itself an artwork. The ultimate piece of performance art that you can live in and is ever changing. Indeed, the process as well as the end result will be important to this ‘art work’.
I know many people share this dream of farming. Rather it is sitting on your porch sipping your morning coffee as the rooster crows and the cool mist colors the rising sun or eating and sharing the vegetables you have sewn with your own hands. I hope that in my own attempt at such lofty dreams on such small scale will inspire as well as create ideas for others to do the same. Who says you need acres of land in the middle of no where to have such a bucolic dream come true. We shall find out.
Come along with me for the ride. It will be fun, frustrating, fertile, but it will never be boring. Not to me, at least. Let’s do it.
